A Carolina blue sky, lots of sunshine, and a crisp, cool temperature greeted our residents on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon in mid-October as they celebrated another Fall Fest at Porters Neck. Jennifer Hancock Boland, our extraordinary Activities Director, once again planned a fun afternoon of Halloween and Autumn-themed games and crafts to keep our goblins, witches, princesses, pumpkins, superheroes, pirates, and athletes entertained. This year, however, we were able to fully enjoy the Fall weather: face paint actually stayed on faces rather than running down hot, sweaty cheeks onto costumes, and the bonfire with accompanying s’mores was a welcomed haven at sundown!
While parents visited and chatted about the prior week’s activities, our junior residents enjoyed a hayride around the golf course, having their faces painted, jumping and sliding in the bounce-houses, and trying their luck to win a treat at the cake walk. After working up their appetites, adults and kids alike were able to grab dinner at PT O’Malley’s food truck. Because of the post-hurricane repairs at the Clubhouse, Jen secured this dining alternative which was a real hit! But the highlight of the day, as usual, was another great performance by No Sleeves Magic. Pirate Beard Black regaled the crowd with his funny stories, magic tricks, and goofy antics, and some of our residents were chosen to assist him during the show.
The Fall Fest was a lovely day spent with friends and neighbors, playing games, and enjoying the long-anticipated cooler weather. It was a nice kick-off to the Halloween season which brings fun costume parties, themed dinners, and of course, Trick-or-Treating! Please have fun Wednesday evening, whether you are accompanying the costumed kiddos while they collect candy and treats from neighbors or staying at home to dole out fun treats. And if you’d like some spooky, charming, or scary visitors leave your lights on to invite them to stop by.
